Hocking College | Student Housing
Nelsonville, Ohio
Ruscilli Construction was selected by Hocking College to construct new 402‑bed student housing facilities on the Nelsonville campus. The project included construction of two seven‑story residence halls located on a challenging hillside site containing abandoned mine shafts dating to the 1930s. To mitigate subsurface risks, extensive mine grouting and deep foundation systems were implemented prior to vertical construction. A cost‑effective structural solution using steel staggered truss framing was employed to minimize interior columns while supporting the buildings’ height and programmatic needs.
Throughout the 16‑month construction schedule, major campus traffic routes were reconfigured to support construction logistics while maintaining uninterrupted campus operations. The project required careful coordination to balance safety, access, and ongoing college activities, demonstrating Ruscilli’s experience delivering complex student housing projects on constrained and technically challenging sites.
