Phase One included construction of a new 20,000sf Microscopy Characterization Laboratory and Research Facility for The Ohio State University Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Developed for the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS), the facility houses highly sensitive and vibration dependent instrumentation, including Titan, OSIRIS, Technai, Spirit, ESEM, Quanta, Helios, Magellan, Sirion, and Nova electron microscopes. Following construction, specialized testing confirmed the facility performs at or above the highest standards achieved by electron microscopy facilities worldwide.

Phase Two expanded the center by converting approximately 7,000sf of existing warehouse space into research support environments, including open office space for 65 workstations, private offices, collaboration areas, lounges, conference and breakout rooms, restrooms, and a kitchenette. This expansion enhanced the facility’s capacity for interdisciplinary research and faculty collaboration while supporting ongoing advanced materials characterization activities.
